Fun - but no countriesNov 14, 2008

My kids have reached the placemat age. They love poring over their placemats at meal time. They also love our globe, so I thought this mat would be a good addition to our table. It is brightly colored and fun to look at, and there are fun illustrations and factoids - but my biggest complaint is that there are no country boundaries and the map is just not realistic.
Later, I picked up two huge laminated wall maps - one of the world and one of the U.S., and put them up on the wall, so we use those maps, and our globe, when we want to find countries.

Doesn't stay in place and designs scratch off quicklySep 19, 2011
By M. Bertram Within 1 week some of the designs began scratching off around the edges. This is probably meant for kids older than 3 who have better table manners. It's not terribly accurate either, so it really isn't suitable for an older child. I'm going to guess it's best for the 3-5 age range (not my 18 month old when I wanted a distraction for him in restaurants). I do still take it with us on the go so I know we have a clean surface - it rolls up okay.

If it gets dirty, kiss it goodbyeJan 18, 2011
By robforrest I was disapointed in how flimsy the material was.
As it is for children to eat food on, I expected it to be able to be a little durable. Instead the color and drawings came off after a few scrubbings.
Do yourself a favor and buy something that is made of plastic - this is like cardboard that has been run threw an ink printer.
The kids love 'em.Apr 17, 2010
By SASLW I bought several of these with various patterns, a move I regret. I should have bought several of the same design, because my kids love them so much that they fight over which one they're going to eat with. I had actually expected it to be a little thicker and padded, but they are flat and thin, about the thickness of a CD but flexible- they can be rolled up. They hold up well to spills, although chewing on it does cause some wear and tear.

I absolutely love these place mats! I got hte US, the worldview map and outspace map. We have these at our table each night. We are americans and live in Singapore and my husband travels a lot. So its great to use the maps to discuss where we live, where we've been, where we're going etc. I've taken them to restaurants too to entertain my son. great gift I think too
