We LOVE this lantern!Oct 14, 2008
By Sue P. We camp a lot and bought this lantern for our 6 year old twins. It is indestructible as ours has been dropped multiple times without a scratch. It stays lit (albeit dimly) all night (10+ hours) in our tent trailer with just 3-4 minutes of winding. The kids love winding it up and seeing the light very bright, and are curious as to how the generator works. It is great for an emergency light, also, as it does not need batteries.

NICE LANTERN, BUT DOES HAVE SOME FLAWS OTHERS DIDN'T MENTIONJan 02, 2011
By JC This is a nice lantern and it is very durable. However, the on/off button is hard to push and needs quite a bit of pressure applied to turn the lantern on or off. I need to use both thumbs at the same time while pressing down hard on the button, and so does my son. It puts out about the same amount of light that you would expect from the average flashlight...it only lights up the immediate area around it. That may be something to consider depending on your intended use. I love the fact that this lantern needs no batteries, but it does need cranked often. My son asks me to crank it because "it takes too long". He is 5 years old though. I would say it needs at least 2 minutes of crank time per several minutes of use, and even then it begins to dim before an hour is up. The compass does not function at all! It's supposed to...it just doesn't. At least not on the one I have received. All in all this is a durable lantern and is ideal for children. It has educational value due to the fact that the crank generates electricity to provide the light it gives. I don't think it is worth $30 however.

Best gift Santa brought this year!Jan 04, 2009
By babiape This lantern is so cool I'm not sure I can express it in words. My 6 year old loves this and so does his dad!! My husband can't get over the quality of this product. It is far better than the coleman lanterns and others we've seen at sporting goods stores. This is the real deal! It is durable, and the whistle and compass are just neat bonus features. If you have a little outdoorsman in the family, get this! Don't be put off by the price tag, I can assure you it is worth every penny. In fact, we will be buying another one soon as our other son can't wait to have his own!

Great LanternFeb 06, 2010

We purchased this lantern for our 7 1/2 year old daughter. We camp every summer and thought it would be fun for her in her own tent. I believe it will be - we just haven't used it camping yet. Very easy to use... just crank the handle and the lantern glows. It's very well made and seems very durable.

Daughters Favorite Christmas GiftJan 03, 2010

My daughter has been wanting a flashlight... when the Fisher Price one I wanted would't arrive before Christmas, I found this Terra Kids Camping Light and I am SO glad I did!! It is the perfect size, very durable and gives out a lot of light without the use of batteries! She had a little trouble winding it up at 1st but is now a pro. It is extremely educational as well, due to the fact it runs on a generator. I am actually in a basic electricity class at the moment and we had discussed things with generators and this is a perfect example of how to learn that concept. I have even already used it for a late night trip down to our storage unit that has no light in it when my flashlight batteries were dead. It is a handy little thing for sure! When I asked my daughter what her favorite Christmas gift from Santa was(she is 4 yrs old) she said her lantern! :-)She will read her books in bed with it and just play in her tent at night. She even has explored a kitchen cupboard or two...lol If you are thinking of getting this do not hesitate- you won't be disappointed!
