Stop the whining. These guns are great. Review based on first hand experience.Aug 08, 2011
By W. Hayden My mother sent my kids one each the "Stagecoach Single Holster Set" and "Western Girl Single Holster Set" for my boy and girl, who are both 5 going on 6. She also sent two Daniel Boon Caps ("Faux Raccoon Tail Hat") and a box of "Cowboys Roll Caps". The bad news is the guns are still a bit large for their hands and they are not yet strong enough to pull the triggers more than once or twice using the two handed approach. This isn't a deal breaker as they will grow into these guns in no time.
The quality of the roll caps will greatly influence how you feel about these guns. My Mom sent a box of "Cowboys Roll Caps". These caps generally work well, but there are some duds and some of the rolls are stuck together requiring the shooter to employ proper clearing techniques lest they get shot by a bad guy. Hey, these are roll caps not .45 ACP self defense rounds. Have fun and stop stressing. The report of these caps varies from soft to very loud. Many factors feed into the reasons for this. Just know they do work. I also like the various reports. Sputter poof to loud Bang. Makes it varied and fun. I also like it when he red paper gets blown off the white backing paper or a hole gets blown through the backing paper. Very satisfying.
FYI when loading caps be sure to pull the roll end up and through the hammer port until the first cap is just in sight. If you don't the caps won't feed.
The overall fit and finish of the guns, taking into account these are toys, is good. I did have to modify the Stagecoach pistol some to get it to fire better. The Western Girl's gun however fires near 100% of the time. The modification required me to file down the top lip of the hammer so that the hammer hit flush with the frame. I'm still working on it. The spring of the boy's gun seems just a bit weaker also.
Both gun are blast, as told from personal experience. I just love the smell of gun powder! ;)
The holsters themselves are also good. They are made of molded rubber and riveted together. I like the feel of them. The belts and buckles are cheap, but again these are toys, and they are functional. The belts might be difficult for young kids and will require an adult to put the belt/holster on and take back off.
If you are looking for a quality set of cap guns these are it. Trust me these are better than the cap gun sold in the grocery store. Much much better.
For those thinking, "why 4 stars for education?" Well duh, guns are an extremely important part of this nations history. Knowing and understanding the gun and our 2nd Amendment Rights is vitally important. I know there are people who don't like guns and that is fine. I'm not forcing you to buy these or even look at them. For those that care I recommend these guns.
If you want I'll a post video of these guns in action. They work well.

By T. Moore I purchased the Cowgirl pistol and holster for my 7 year old daughter and she plays with it all the time with the boys. It seems to be durable and we have not had any problems.

Disappointing, cheap, hard to fireMar 14, 2012
By Molly C I ordered this cowgirl gun for myself, because I have always felt like a cowgirl even though I am a middle-aged suburban mom, and because my 7 year old wanted a cap gun for himself. (We got him the Big Tex pistol and holster set which was a better buy.) If he's going to be Wyatt Earp, I should get to be Annie Oakley. Well, Annie Oakley would have been very disappointed with this cap gun. The holster is cute but that's the best that can be said for this set.
PROS: 1) The gun has a pink plastic handle and comes in a cute pink holster with a cowgirl and horse on it. 2) The rest of the gun is metal and has some weight, so it feels a bit more realistic than a gun made completely of plastic.
CONS: 1) Although it's metal, the barrel has a very shiny finish which makes it look really cheap. 2) The trigger is very hard to pull and wore me out after a few rounds of pretend target shooting. I needed a pretend drink at the pretend saloon to help my real injured finger feel better. I can't imagine a young cowgirl being able to pull the trigger more than a few times before crying and wandering off to play Barbies. 3) The roll caps which came with the set didn't fire properly at least half of the time. We found that pulling the safety back and letting it go would sometimes explode the unexploded caps on the paper as it came out of the top of the barrel. Is it a feature or a bug? I don't know, but it was certainly annoying. 4) When the caps did go off, the paper frequently caught fire briefly. Not a safe thing for youngsters. But since most of them wouldn't be able to pull the trigger more than a few times anyway, this may be a moot point. 5) The "belt" that the holster attaches to is a flimsy strip of webbing.
Overall, the experience of ordering this gun and waiting hopefully for it to arrive on the Wells Fargo wagon was more fun than actually playing with it. Kids might not care about the aesthetics, but they might mind not being able to pull the trigger more than a couple of times. For the price, this wasn't worth it.

Cheap..don't buyOct 19, 2009
By Grace Elizabeth This product is made of cheap plastic and is not worth the money. I bought two of these guns for my little girls at Tweetsie Railroad. Although they are pretty, they were not good for much else. The paper caps kept getting jammed in the gun and the trigger was very hard for my daughters ages 4 and 5 to pull. After firing the guns a few times, the seam began to split. Luckily, the store let us return the guns and exchange them for something else. We bought the "Bill The Kid" gun which was much better.
