not so greatJul 21, 2010 i bought this through amazon for my 1yr old daughters bday. the toy lasted all of one day. half of the animals will not make any sound when the piece is picked up. when sitting on a table, untouched and away from all movement, the toy randomly makes the animal noises. i would not recommend this product.
Turns out, this puzzle is fairly obnoxious.Jun 04, 2010 As advertized, it's a puzzle; you put the pieces in, and the individual animals make noise. The problem for us arrose when the animals made noises, at random, for no apparent reason. The thing is, the light sensors under each pice are EXTREMELY sensative, and they will go off at the slightest provocation; this tends to defeat the purpose of having a noise for every animal, because when my child is putting the pieces in, and say, she's trying to put the cat peice in, but her hand passes over the frog, the frog will go off. The constant noise is obnoxious. Not our favorite puzzle by a long shot.
Pet Sound PuzzleMar 16, 2010 The sound is a low but can be heard in a quiet environment. The reward of sound for each puzzle piece keeps the person motivated to continue working on the puzzle. I like the thickness of the wooden pieces which increases the durability of the puzzle. I have ordered many of the Melissa and Doug puzzles and they all are a great addition to my collection.
educational & funJan 31, 2010 I purchased this item for my niece for Christmas. She is just over 2yrs old. It helps her identify the animals and includes the sounds. Melissa & Doug items have great educational value & also engage the kids in having fun while learning.
Great value and great fun !!Jan 07, 2010 My 18 month old grandson had a couple of similar puzzles which he enjoyed playing with, so I bought him this one because it made the animal noises, which his other ones didn't. He loves it !! He has to experiment to find out which animal goes in which hole, and when he gets it right, is rewarded with the sound of that animal, bringing a big smile to his face.
From an adult standpoint, I have to say that this puzzle is very well constucted, and is the type of toy that will endure being passed down to younger children as they come along.
