beautifully hand crafted but it stops there.Jan 14, 2010

We received this sled today and upon opening it my two year old daughter went crazy. First off, this is one of the most beautifully, hand crafted sleds I have ever laid eyes on. We could not wait to get out in the snow. Upon sitting my daughter in the sled I started to pull her and was amazed at how easy the sled glided across the snow. However, the excitement less than ten feet away when we came to the first part of the slightest uneven ground; the sled tipped over and my daughter landed face first. I cleaned her off and set her back in the sled. Several times we tried to pull her around just in our yard. Every single time we came to the slightest incline or uneven area she tipped over. After the fifth tip over she was done. We were both disheartened as this would have been a keeper, however, I don't want to hang it up in the den for its beauty. I need a functional sled simple as that.
I contacted Mountain Boy and explained the issue and Kevin just didn't know what to say to me. With such high craftsmanship the actual sled (bottom) should have been designed far better. Even using the same slippery plastic material would have suited if there was a wide channel cut down the middle and it acted as two skis as opposed to a solid bottom. We live in Ohio and have about a good six inches of snow out there right now. her old sled was designed for 6-24 months so she outgrew it. it was a Pelican and never tipped over because it had a center channel to funnel snow acting like skies.
I would have given this sled 5 stars for the woodworking craftsmanship alone, but it has to be functional and work well. The sled is described as stable and looking at the bottom one would think so. Mountain Boy, redesign the sled with skies and a channel down the middle and you have an absolute winner! This sled may also work better in powder snow. Either way we are saddened by having to return it as its just that beautiful to look at.

Perfect sled to get little kids out in the snowDec 02, 2007
By Laura J. Reed My husband and I rented one of these for a trip last year to Sun Valley, Idaho. We took our niece and nephew, ages 2 and 3, and they loved it! One day we used it to get them back up the sled hill, two days we used it to explore the area. It's easy to pull so the grown-ups don't get too tired. We used it on both fresh powder and somewhat icy granular snow, and it was fine on both. Well made, very sturdy, and beautiful to look at when it's not in use.

Love itJan 19, 2009
By M. Davids I found someone on Craigslist that had one of these and got it for a good price. It is very well made and slides easily over the snow. My 22 month old daughter enjoys it a lot. It's great on a flat surface but can tip over on an uneven one. I love it.

Looking for some good exercise with a toddler, I decided that a walk, snowshoe, or cross-country ski would be great with a sled like this!
Boy was I right! This sled is so smooth over the snow, both packed and powder. Getting back from our 1 mile journey, my 20 month old said, "again!".
I really can't believe what a great sled this is. We are definately going to buy more Mountain Boy sleds in the future!

Beautiful, but tips easilyJan 12, 2011
By mommyy We bought this sled about 3 years ago for our son's first Christmas (he was 8 months old). Unfortunately, when it snows here, we get several inches at once. We took him out for a ride and promptly tipped him face first into the snow. We thought that maybe it was because he was so little and waited until the next winter to try again. The same thing happened again. If the sled went over one of our tracks left by walking, the sled would tip.
It is a beautiful looking sled and it perfect for setting the kids in by the blue spruce to take Christmas card photos, but it hasn't seen much use as a working sled.
Today we had the perfect amount of snow, just a couple of inches, so I put my one year old in an pulled her all over the yard. She loved it, and it didn't tip once, but I was watching carefully and there were a couple of close calls. The place it worked best was on the non-shoveled sidewalks. There, it rode smoothly. I think this sled will be reserved for times when there is only a little snow or when it is actively snowing (and the walks are not cleared) while we walk my oldest to school.
