 Fun cooperative gameJul 07, 2011

We got this game to give as a gift to some of the neighbor girls thinking our boys would be disinterested due to the mermaid (they loathe anything pink at this moment!), but to our surprise they loved the game and were sad when we left it with our friends. The kids played it non stop for an hour, which is a long time for two very busy boys. Once I got a chance to be a part of the action I could see why they liked it, because everybody works together. I am finding that these cooperative games by peaceable kingdom are just the answer to our difficulty with a very competitive board game player. Playing these cooperative games takes the worry out about winning and just lets us work together. The only thing that is difficult in this game is for the kids to understand that the mermaids aren't "theirs" but instead we can all move them when we see fit to get them from the start to the island without the sea witch getting them. I do believe that there being only 3 mermaids helps with the idea, but it is truly the only hurdle we've seen with this game. I'd recommend it for anybody with children that enjoy board games, but have difficulty with loosing, it helps us to "reset" our game strategy so that the players aren't focused on winning but rather are just having fun.

I got this game for my niece and she loves playing it with her friends and family. Everyone gets so involved and throws out their strategies on which mermaid should move. It's fun to hear some of their ideas and it's surprising to see the team work that comes into play.

My girl students especially loved Mermaid Island! Instead of playing against each other in competition- you have to work as a team to play together and win. This is such an essential, yet hard-to-come by lesson for young kids! The game is brightly colored and attractive to young children, and very simple to understand. This is a great educational teamwork game and I highly recommend this game. In fact my husband's elementary school just bought several of the Mermaid Island board games to put in their younger elementary classrooms! Perfect game for at home or in the classroom!

I guess the concept is good to work to get all the mermaids to the island. Not much brain power needed and not very imaginative either. Would not recommend.

I ordered Mermaid Island for my 5 year old daughter for Christmas, and we LOVE it! The cooperative play (everyone wins or everyone loses) makes it fun to play and no one is a sore loser. The graphics are adorable and we love the company's commitment to the environment.
I also purchased Hoot Owl Hoot for my 3 year old son for Christmas and Count Your Chickens for my niece and nephew (also 5 and 3). I just cannot say enough good things about the games. They are as much fun for me as they are for the kids.
We took the games to my daughter's school, and the teachers loved them so much, they plan to buy one of each for the school. Peaceable Kingdom coop games will definitely be our new favorite birthday present to give.
