The best water colors out there!Mar 20, 2010

My 2 year old daughter loves to paint. We went through MANY different sets of water colors, from Melissa and Doug to crayola. My daughter seemed to use the other paints within days, they were messy, or the colors were just not bright enough. The Alex paints are wonderful! My daughter has been painting with them for over a month, the colors don't mix easily, they are bright, and they clean easily. I buy a lot from Amazon and rarely write reviews but I thought these paints definately deserved a great review. We love them!

This set contains a nice selection of colors (green, black, red, pink, yellow, purple, orange, and blue). Unlike traditional watercolors, these don't run into other colors when they touch on the damp paper. The consistency is somewhat thick which results in vibrant colors which are somewhat opaque when dry. The wells that the individual colors are in are deep enough that water doesn't spill out into the other colors. The brush is of fair quality; good enough for children's activities.

These have a more chalky texture than the shiny Crayola ones. My son who's 4 really likes painting with these and now so does my 2 and 1/2 year old daughter. I bought a second set and was having problems with the paints getting moldy and smelling pretty bad, but I now very carefully wash them and dry with paper towel, then let them air dry a bit before putting away. They last a few months even with regular use and make pretty, bright colors on the paper.

My 3-year-old granddaughter loves to paint, and this is by far the best watercolor set I've ever seen. Can't say enough good things about it.

Really great watercolor set- very thick blocks of color that will get tons and tons of use. the color intensity is great as well, much better than the store-bought ones with the yellow and black label. Very dense blocks as well; meaning, when you add water they do not immediately denigrate- lasting a very long time. Great product!
