Really fun to do with the kids!Dec 25, 2009
By book-a-week I have enjoyed playing with this as much as my kids. The premise is that you gather crayons, melt them and make cool new crayons. But the fun to me is watching the kids come up with their own creative color combinations. Note, this is not something you can quickly do, as the process takes at least 20 but more like 30 minutes to complete. Your actual involvement is only a few minutes, but the machine is on a timer and you cannot rush the process. You can spend a few minutes getting this ready, then do something else while the time ticks by. The machine locks down, so you cannot accidentally open it and burn your fingers on the melting wax. Nor can you open it until the crayons have cooled off. Once the crayon has been made and cooled down so you can use it, it really does color with all the multiple colors. For example, when you blend red, yellow and green, your new crayon will color in red until you twist it a bit and are on a green spot, or yellow spot. It is fun. And if you don't like the new crayon, just melt it again and start over. I am really surprised at how much the kids have played with this. I thought it would be a one-hit-wonder, but it is not. If you find it on sale, it is definitely worth the price. It is a fun toy that has interested both boys and girls.

Overpriced, but my nice loves it.Jan 08, 2010
By Lauren D. Peterson Lets get the price out of the way. I saw these for $30-40 around Thanksgiving. When returned to buy, the only available ones were $60-70. Now the price is even higher. I don't know why this is. The reviews for this toy were not great, so we hesitated it buy it because of that and the price. However, my niece (7) loves it and that is what matters.
I spoke with my sister yesterday, my niece (7) still loves this crayon maker. They have used it several times. The crayons that come out are small but "really cool." My nephew (8) tried to open the maker while it was running and couldn't get to the hot areas/melting crayons, which is a plus!

Crayon MakerSep 06, 2011
By Shay During Christmas my daughter wanted this, then didn't want it, then wanted it and didn't want it. Finally, last minute I needed one more thing for her and she wanted this. I went to every store possible and they were out of them. I finally found it on here and due to the fact that I waited so long....I paid too much for it but my daughter loves it. The only thing is that if you put too many colors together, like in play-doh, the color turns out brownish. She has really enjoyed it though. And the only crayons to use in it are Crayola brand....the other brands do NOT work well.

Coloring funFeb 02, 2010
By Sandra S. Morgan My 6yo started taking the wrappers off the broken crayons in our crayon box before Christmas in anticipation of receiving this toy from Santa. It is a great toy and my son has enjoyed making new swirl crayons. It isn't a toy that he plays with all of the time, but when he does he enjoys it. The only downside is that it is a little pricey.
