Corolle has made a lovely baby doll!Nov 05, 2006
By Kristina J. Ivey
"Children's Book Addict"
As a disclaimer, I have little experience with baby dolls so I can't really compare Lila to dolls from other brands. That said, Lila is fantastic! She is a 17" doll and so approximates the size of a small newborn. She is pretty light for a little Mommy to carry though (a pound or two?). She is interactive in four ways--laughing when tickled on her tummy, babbling baby talk when her hand is squeezed, crying when placed on her tummy (but stops on her own after about 10 seconds), and making sucking noises when her bottle is placed in her mouth. The sounds are so sweet, not loud or annoying. My daughter takes this doll to bed with her and when I check on her after she's asleep, I just flip the switch on her back to turn her off so that Lila doesn't wake her up in the middle of the night or during naps. The doll is obviously adorable, as the pictures show. Lila was a 2nd birthday gift for my daughter and she took to her immediately. She has played with it every day since receiving it more than a month ago. The doll sits well in a high chair (Kidkraft, see my review if interested) for feeding. The only downside that I've found is that she can't go in the bath.
At our house, we have three Corolle babies. The brand (French in origin) came highly recommended by a friend. I purchased the Calin doll for my daughter's first Christmas (she was 15 months), and I later got baby Paul (anatomically correct boy doll) to help my older son with potty training. I do think Calin could be a good first doll but my daughter has just never taken to her. She is a much smaller doll at 12 inches and has no interactive features. I'm sure it's one of those things where all kids are different but for my daughter, the interactive features and realistic size make Lila a favorite.
Oh, and this doll won an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award in 2005. A lot of the Corolle dolls got high marks there and I definitely agree. Corolle dolls smell heavenly (vanilla? sugar cookie?) and you can find oodles of coordinating accessories and clothes for them. If my daughter were older, I might just buy the baby preemie clothes for her since they're frustratingly cheaper but she really needs the ease of velcro to change Lila for now. (For anyone interested, she also fits perfectly in the Badger Basket Toys Doll Crib with Cabinet that Amazon also sells.)

Lila is the best doll out there! Still perfect after more than 5 years.Feb 20, 2007
By J. Hicks Our two year old daughter received Lila (renamed Gracie) for Christmas. She absolutely loves her baby! We could throw away all her other dolls and she would not care, as long as she has Gracie. The baby has a beautiful face, nice sturdy accessories, and a nice vanilla scent. The baby seems well made, but we did have a problem - her left eye was stuck. I called Corolle and they took care of it immediately. They were fantastic. Gracie went on vacation, (we sent her back to the company) and they sent us a brand new doll. We highly recommend this baby! She laughs, says mama and coos, cries, and takes her bottle. The bottle provided is the only one that will make a sucking sound. The sounds are realistic and not annoying like some other 'cutesy' dolls. My daughter loves to take care of Gracie, and she goes everywhere with us. There is an off switch in the back which is nice during church and at night, so Gracie doesn't wake our daughter. Our 3 yr old son also likes to take care of the baby - a great nurturing product. Would be great for families expecting a new baby, really helps teach children. We also have the Corolle baby buggy. My daughter likes to take the baby and stroller when we go shopping, and she pushes her around. This actually works much better for us than me trying to push my daughter. She stays right with me and we get a lot of comments on how cute she is.
UPDATE April 2012 After five and a half years, Gracie (Lila) is still my daughter's all time favorite doll. She is her constant companion. The baby doll works as flawlessly as the day she arrived, although she has seen some hard play! She has been thrown from the top of a swingset by an older brother, has been colored on, has had her bottle chewed on, etc. When we went on vacation this past summer, on the way home, our daughter became frantic that she had left Gracie at the hotel. My husband reassured her that he saw Gracie in the car, but what he saw was a different doll. When it was discovered that Gracie had indeed been left, our daughter was inconsolable. I began talking with people at the hotel, but the weekend we went was the last weekend of the season. (It's a summertime destination). They finally said they had looked everywhere and the doll was nowhere to be found. After a few weeks, I asked our daughter if she wanted a new baby doll just like it, but she only wanted her Gracie to come home. After several weeks of correspondence, a woman with a little girl herself finally found Gracie and she sent Gracie on her way back home. Our daughter wondered if she was scared all alone in the dark box, but we told her Gracie was probably just sleeping. Gracie is back in our daughter's bed each night and no longer goes on vacation by herself. I make sure to keep up with her when we travel!

Love at first cry...Sep 19, 2007
By PWRW We placed this doll in bed w/ my daughter before she awoke on the morning of her fourth birthday. She woke up to the doll's cries, and it was love at first cry!
We chose not to show her any of the doll's other features, but rather allowed her to investigate and discover each one. It was a joy to watch her face light up with each new discovery!
Perhaps I have a revised version, but I do not believe that the cry is too loud. In fact, there are times when I wish the doll's sounds were louder. The cooing and giggling are incredibly life like and sweet. And while I can understand someone being annoyed by the realistic cry under stressful circumstances, the crying actually compels the little "momma" to immediately attend to the doll, achieving for herself a sense of satisfaction in a "job well done" once her "baby" has stopped crying.
I was concerned that the doll might lose a bit of magic, in my daughter's eyes, once she realized that it was battery powered, but she was not phased by that knowledge.
Lila has been in our home for almost one year, and there has not been one day when she is not played with, cared for and cuddled by both my four year old daughter and her six year old brother. We are quite pleased with our choice.

The best baby doll we've ever seenSep 20, 2007
By L. Shelton My 6-year old daughter received this doll for Christmas last year, and all of us immediately loved it. The sounds she makes are realistic, and the crying is not overly long in my opinion (as one reviewer noted), and in fact my daughter enjoys feeling as if she really has to do something to help her baby stop crying. The doll is the right weight and softness, and the details are really sweet and not strange or scary as some baby dolls for some reason are made to look. I've seen dolls with wrinkled little faces or pouting mouths, and this one has a perfectly sweet and serene expression on its face. My daughter often has friends over and they all like to play "babies." They all bring their own babies to our house, and none of them are anywhere near as beautiful or as lifelike as this doll. She is truly the way baby dolls should all be made. True, you don't want to lose the pacifier or bottle, but if you do, you can always order another one. On the plus side, it's a good lesson for kids to learn to keep track of things, and my daughter immediately set aside a safe place to keep her baby things so they wouldn't get lost. I've enjoyed the responsibility this has instilled in her. All in all, it is the best present we have ever given her.
