We love our Dimetrodon!Jun 13, 2009
By Angela McCormick I admit, a few months back, I purchased this Dimetrodon thinking he was a dinosaur. Now that my child is actually studying prehistory, we are learning that he was a reptile, with mammalian characteristics, definitely no dinosaur. (We pretend ours is a male.) He's distantly related to modern mammals. Dimetrodon was a carnivore, and you can see his meat-eating teeth (he's named after his two sizes of teeth).
His wonderful sail allows us to easily see how he warmed up in the sun and just by turning away, or pointing it into the wind, he can cool down, regulating his body much faster than without the sail. Please view my two photo examples where I taught my preschooler how he uses his sails with the sun.
Yep, he's not quite as big as the product description, ours measures 4" tall and 7.25" long. Didn't bother me at all though, we have tons of the Safari Ltd toys and this one is perfect. I think the stock photo is too reddish, he's a tad more yellow and warmer looking.
We love our Dimetrodon. Beautifully painted, with all the details we wanted to see in our little Permian predator. As we collect prehistoric creatures, we're so happy that we get such an important example from the Permian (right before dinos) period.
The Awkward AgeMar 17, 2012
By Lex Luthor Whenever I think of Dimetrodon, the only word that comes to mind is "awkward." I know that he was the apex predator of his day, but he just looks so...awkward. He's always been a favorite of mine simply because of his unique physicality. The biggest plus of this figure for me was the patterning and color choices painted on this figure. The sculpt is pretty great, but the thing that seals the deal is the paint job. I absolutely love this figure. He's fun, he's durable and sturdy, and just looks fantastic. I would recommend him for kids and collectors alike. If you don't yet have a Dimetrodon, go out and get this one! :D
DImetrodron is smaller than dimensions described!Mar 22, 2009
By P. Parks The Dimetrodon actually measures 4" tall x 7 1/2" long. They are beautifully detailed toys but smaller than described. If this does not bother you they are a great toy! They stand perfectly without wobbling which is a problem with some toys. Any child who loves dinosaurs would be thrilled to add these to their collection! These would even look great on a small shelf.
A bit small, but still lots of funApr 21, 2008
By L. VanDalsen-Woody I bought this dino along with several others for my 3 year old son. This one is a bit smaller than the rest and probably isn't his favorite. Still a very nice figure, if this is specifically what you're looking for. Otherwise, if you just need to get a "dinosaur" there are much more impressive ones out there. Especially the kronosaurus.
