Beautiful, educational, fun, durable and safe medieval toy soldiersJun 13, 2006
By EquesNiger I purchased this little fellow in Prague after being given the Dragon for Christmas. It's a remarkably detailed piece, with an amazing level of historical accuracy in the armor and armaments of the 14th/15th century. It's made of highly durable plastic, and overall it's rugged enough to withstand the rigors of entertaining youngsters. I bought several other members of the Schleich Knights series for my two nephews, aged 4 and 6, so there is minimal concern that the detachable parts could be dangerous for young children. The pieces come in two opposing camps: the Red Fleur de Lis, and the Blue Lion, and each piece has a corresponding piece in the other, with somewhat different design and graphics. Though the Red Camp shows arms and armor of the 12-13th Centuries (typically), and the Blue the arms and armor of the 13-15th, the Red Fleur de Lis and Blue Lion crossbowmen are identical, in this case. The level of detail, for this price, is actually quite surprising. Also, it appears some political sensitivity went into the crafting, as the Red Fleur de Lis corresponds more closely to the English armor and weapons of the periods, while the Blue Lion more closely refelcts the French, despite the switched heraldic devices.

A Great Toy, with Attention to Detail.Feb 25, 2012
By Vincenzo L. Falcone I purchased this figure, along with several others of the Schleich line, and was amazed at how amazing they truly are. The figures are well sculpted, well painted, and very durable - meaning that if I WAS to let my son have a go at them, they could hold up to the punishment.
They are accurately detailed, with no traces of 'fantasy' or 'mythology' to them - no flaming swords, or oddly shaped weapons and armour. The knights are superbly crafted and historically designed. On this piece in particular, detail has been given to everything from the bow in his hands, to the quiver of bolts at his hip. His tunic, his boots, even the look and detail applied to his face has everything necessary to set the wheels of imagination in motion, and get your troops moving on the battlefield!
If I may quote the previous post of EquisNiger: "The pieces come in two opposing camps: the Red Fleur de Lis, and the Blue Lion, and each piece has a corresponding piece in the other, with somewhat different design and graphics. This reflects an impressive variety in styles of armament and armor of the period, and vastly improves the educational value of the series. "
In all, I give this line of figure and their accessories Two Thumbs Up!

Schleich is the bestDec 30, 2011
By Befragt I bought some of the Schleich knights, including this one, for my 5 year old son's birthday. I can't say enough for these.
At first glance, these knights seem expensive, even when bought through Amazon. Although a bit pricey, the quality more than makes up for that. This figurine stands a few inches tall - it's not some tiny little thing. It's made of a resin-like material, extremely durable. In fact, our puppy grabbed one of the knights and tried to chew on it for a few seconds until we could grab it away - there wasn't a mark on it.
The level of detail with these figurines is exquisite. Although they're apparently hand-painted, they're painted to perfection. I can't say whether the knight's garb is historically accurate (I simply don't know), but I can say that there is an attention to detail that is awesome. As my son played with these, I found myself thinking that they looked so real that it was almost as if someone had taken a photo of Medieval soldiers. Awesome.
One bonus to these knights is that they're large, with few, if any, removable pieces (the lances of the mounted knights can be removed, and the mounted knights can be taken off their horses). In a house with other small kids and dogs, the size and lack of numerous parts is pretty key.
My son really, really loves these. There was a bit of downside in that. First, after we gave him his knights we couldn't get him to bed because he wanted to play with them all night. In fact, we had to agree to allow him to take them with him. Then we had to give him more knights for Christmas. He was previously into cars, but the cars appear forgotten. Then he immediately wanted to read books on knights and compare them to the figurines we'd given him.
Second, the knights are so attractive and so well done that my daughters want to play with them as well. That triggered any number of disputes. So we had to order some princess-type figurines for my youngest daughter because she loves the Schleich horses so much.
Really, I can't remember the last time my only reservation about a toy was that my children liked it too much. Durability, educational value, fun, these knights can't be beaten. Highly, highly recommended!
