"You control your launch speed"...this statement in the items description is misleading...looking at the product and then reading this, and taking into consideration the price...leads one to believe that you can somehow "set" the speed you want your Bey released at. This is so totally not the case! You control the launch speed with ANY Bey you release...whether you use this piece of junk, or the standard rip cord that came with your Bey. The only thing this does is tell you how fast you released yous at. I can't tell you what they use to calculate this number because it doesn't make sense. My 7 year old averages a release speed of 15,000...where my husband and I average about 32,000. That's a pretty high number and can't be revolutions per minute...the friggin Bey would take flight if that was the case...so I have no idea what it means. It can record your highest releases, and also stores a number for different players (or whatever you want to assign to the 8 saved fields)...this is a totally pointless feature because as I said before, IT doesn't control the speed, you do. Yes, you can use a left or right Bey with it, but they don't grip like they do with the launchers that come with each Bey and most of the time fall off before you get to launch. If you lose the ripcord, throw this away because other ripcords won't work with it and the ripcord that comes with it wont work with other launchers. It is also incredibly LOUD...it beeps and has a countdown for you to release. You have to be "Quick-Draw-McGraw" tho to use this feature because you have to push the green button, the 3 second countdown starts, then you have to somehow position it in your hand and over the stadium before the 3 seconds are up....IMPOSSIBLE for a child to do, and a frustrating task for an adult. I ordered 2 of these so each of my kids could have one and it was the worst $50 spent EVER! My kids refuse to play with them telling me "Mom, these are broken". "No kids, they aren't broken...it is just another over-priced, over marketed, piece of junk that will soon find it's way in the trash can".

We purchased this product today, however, the device would not work with any of the Beyblades my son has. Which is five he purchased a week ago. But I figured a way around to get it to spin the Beyblades:
- 'only' use the "R" adapter
- switch the spin selector to "R"
- 'only' use the rip-cord in the "L" insert
Now your Beyblades will lock in place and will spin with more power than the little rippers that come with blades. Have fun!

Really people?! It's a toy. It's $4.99. It does what it says, and it is a MUCH better launcher than what comes standard with every Bey. It is not junk. My kids use it all the time and love it. I have used it as well. I have won a few battles against my kids using this launcher compared to the basic launchers. The only negative is that it's god-awful LOUD. But I fixed that right away by putting clear packaging tape over the speaker. Duct tape works better to block out the noise, but clear tape isn't as noticeable.
To the reviewer that mentioned what a crime to humanity this is because it doesn't say what it uses to calculate the speed at, ie; revolutions per minute, etc. you need to relax. Let the kids use it a few times to see what the fastest they can get, then let them try to beat it. IT'S A TOY. It isn't intended to train them for the Beyblade Olympics.
Also, this is not difficult to use. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to use it to it's full potential. My 10 year old pushed the green button and launched it perfectly his 1st try while he was in the hospital with IV's in both arms. It's not hard for people with coordination.
I have used it with every Bey my son has, and it worked the same with each one.
Seriously, chill out. Buy it for your kid who loves Beyblades. It's a cheap, fun toy that they will love you for.

When buying this launcher, you do have to be careful as to what Beyblades you currently own since it will not work with every style. My kid's have all kinds so this wasn't a problem. As far as launchers are concerned, this is a little better quality than the ones that come with each Beyblade. The launcher has a countdown sound and will display your rip speed based on how fast you pull the ripcord. My kids liked these launchers the first two days after they got them, but haven't used them since. They seem to be concerned more with the Beys they are using than which launcher they are using. Normally they will select whatever launcher is closest that will work with the particular Bey they want to fight with. If you can get them for $4.99 or less, it is no big deal if they end up not getting used, which is how much I paid. I do feel sorry for early adopters who may have paid $14.99, because they are definitely not worth that price. Your kids may use them more than mine. I just think in hindsight my kids would have preferred another Bey instead.

Caution - Only works with certain Beyblades!Dec 25, 2011

We purchased two of these as Christmas presents for our children. Come Christmas morning, none of us could get these to work. After reading the fine print on the package/instructions - WHICH IS NOT ON THE AMAZON WEBSITE - we learned it "only works with Metal Fusion Battle Tops, Metal Masters Battle Tops, XTS Electro Battlers and XTS Tornado Battlers" - NOT YOUR STANDARD BEYBLADES! Our approximately 1-year-old (both plastic and metal) Beyblades weren't compatible, and they aren't labeled to help you figure out this out, unless you kept the boxes in perpetuity or google to try and remember exact names or match up photos.
The Amazon Product Features is misleading at best, as statements like "learn to maximize the best launch speed for all your Beyblades" sure seemed to imply it worked with all Beyblades. The Description makes no mention of this limitation either.
Bottom Line: If you aren't 100% certain you already have or are newly purchasing those special types of Beyblades, don't buy this.
