I recently purchased two of these paintable birdhouses. One for my five year old son and one for a birthday gift for one of his friends. It comes with the permanent paints and a paintbrush. It is easy to remove and reattach the roof for painting. I found that tape around the twine will make it easy to re-insert it back through the holes...like the end of a shoelace. It is a little more lightweight than it appears in the picture, but is a great craft for kids. We just placed ours outside and hope to get some visitors this season. I would recommend this as a gift for kids from 4 years and older. It's fun for even big kids...like me. :)

My 8-year old daughter thoroughly enjoyed painting this bird house and finding a location for it in our yard. No birds have moved in, but her pleasure was definitely enough to justify the purchase. Very easy to work with and access inside the house is simple too.
